OECD National Contact Point
In 1996 Poland became a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The OECD groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. With active relationships with some 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society, it has a global reach. Best known for its publications and its statistics, its work covers economic and social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development and science and innovation.
Polish OECD National Contact Point (NCP) has been established by Ministry of Economy in April 2001 and located at the Polish Agency for Foreign Investment (PAIZ). The decision is based on the conviction that PAIZ - a reputed institutions with close relations with the foreign investors - can strongly influence the improvement of the reception of the foreign direct investments in Poland by the general public.
The main goal of the National Contact Point is to promote and disseminate information on guidelines and indications of the OECD. The document which is the most important in this respect and constitutes part of OECD declaration on international investments and multinational enterprises is "The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises".
"The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises" encourages multinational companies to disseminate and publicize in more open manner accurate information on their activities. It also regards employment, transparency, environment protection, R&D activities, client's rights, rules of fair competition and tax regulations.
According to those guidelines enterprises should respect, among the others, activities of legal trade unions and inform employees about changes in the enterprise's activity. They also should apply proper environment protection management systems and create mechanisms eliminating corruption and all sort of illegal practices.
